Montecito Strong
One year ago, Santa Barbara and Montecito were forever changed due to the devastation caused by the debris flow. We are thankful to be part of such a special community who rallied together to offer support, love and hope. The endless amount of effort put in by first responders, volunteers, local businesses and neighbors helped with the re-growth efforts. This is the true definition of community and we are fortunate to live in this amazing town.
A remembrance event is planned on January 9, 2019 in Montecito to mark one year since the devastating mudslides that swept through the community. The event is called Raising Our Light: An Evening of Remembrance in Montecito and will begin at Lower Manning Park. The candlelit processional will move down San Ysidro Road and end at All Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, which is located at 83 Eucalyptus Lane. Organizers say the event is for the entire community, and they hope it will provide healing to those who attend.
People are expected to start gathering at Lower Manning Park at 6 p.m. The official program begins at 6:30 p.m. Those who attend will also be able to grab a cup of soup from Organic Soup Kitchen. The event is slated to run until 8:30 p.m.
